All About Hannah

Hannah is jealous because she doesn't think she's getting enough press on my blog! So, here is a post dedicated just to Hannah! Hmmm......let's see, what's going on in Hannah's life that I can tell you about? She's bringing her grades up, so we now have great hope that her future career aspirations might involve more than flipping burgers or cleaning houses. Wait, she hates to clean, so scratch that. We are very proud of her efforts, however, and encourage her to do her best all the time. In other news, Hannah is going to audition for the school talent show (forcefully she says, and I tend to agree, but hey, can you blame me for wanting her to follow through on something and show off her God-given talent?). She plans to sing "I Need You" by LeAnn Rimes. She's also performing "Simple Gifts" at the Solo and Ensemble Festival on Jan. 31. An adjucator will listen to her and "grade" her performance, offering tips for improvement. She still enjoys art class and has brought home many wonderful works of art! She is very random and certainly marches to her own drum! She has a lot of friends. A highlight of last week was an assembly at school (two hours) that covered such topics as relationships and abstinence. She thinks it was slightly awkward because her best "guy" friend was sitting next to her the whole time! She is a total Narnia fan, to the point of obsession. She would like to marry William Moseley! (She says, "he's like 21, mama!"). She just got a fabulous haircut and makes everyone jealous with her thick, naturally wavy hair that looks like it came out of a magazine photo shoot! (She says "at least when it's brushed!"). She claims she can communicate with Georgie, our black Lab ("because she loves me best" - actually that is wrong, she loves ME best!). She plays the piano every day, even though it's the same three songs every time! She teaches herself to play and is quite adept at it. She also loves her DS and her Brain Age is 38. Even though she's only 13. And the best possible score is 20. I don't get it. Here is a selection of fabulous photos for your enjoyment!

Hannah is 13!!!
I've been remiss in not posting until now - Hannah has turned a milestone age! 13! We celebrated with a party, first swimming at Martha Lake, then back home to make pie iron pizzas, s'mores, have cake and ice cream, sing karaoke until the wee hours (staying up to mark her 1:01 birth time), and finally, the girls spent the night in the camper. I say "spent the night" because they DID NOT sleep at all. They stayed up all night, talking and carrying on. Jeff, Harrison, Arlie and Rylie slept on air mattresses in the garage (to "guard" the girls against things that go bump in the night). But it was all for naught, as the girls didn't sleep a wink and probably made our neighbors mad in the process (tent trailer walls are thin!). In the morning we had chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, and Hannah opened her "family" presents. Then, she and her best friend Jessica slept most of the day away. The photos are of the whole group jumping in Martha Lake, Hannah in the morning w/ her "birthday table", and the cake Hayley made. We didn't have 13 candles, or a "1" and a "3" candle, so Hayley improvised with 8, 4, 1 (8+4+1=13). Good times!

Hannah will "tri" again!
Hannah had total confidence in the triathlon. She wasn't nervous and figured it would be "easy" after she swam a 1/2 mile with me a couple of summers ago. Biking and running? No problem - she loves to bike and her running was amazingly improved this year after we figured out why she hated sports (because she had arthritis and was always in pain!). She ran all the time in school and her times were good. So, she ventured into this new frontier with total confidence and anticipation. She got in the water and offered last-minute advice to her younger siblings, and then did a solid swim, followed by a smooth transition to the bike. She was the first of the pack off on her bike and came in right behind Hayley. She slid on her running shoes and was off on the run, which was steady and solid all the way to the finish line. She received her medal and water and at the trophy presentation, when asked if she'd do it again, she said "Yes!" with confidence. Later she said "that was FUN!" and said she would definitely "tri" again! We're considering a "team" tri or perhaps a mother/daughter event in the future. Yay Hannah!

Hannah

Photos of Hannah at the camping trip/water park. She took her friend Sophia with her on this trip (we've promised the kids they can each bring a friend on a camping trip this summer!). Hannah and Sophia were "bored" less than an hour into the water park. I couldn't believe it - bored?? At a water park?? What the heck is wrong with kids these days? I spent $120 to get us all in to the park, and in the end, Hannah and Sophia were "bored", I went down one slide, Hayley didn't get wet at all, and only Jeff, Arlie and Harrison got any use out of their $16 admission! Geesh. Anyway, Hannah had fun showing off, being a goofball (as usual!), and teaching Harrison and Arlie dances which they showed off at the campsite.
